Rock Creek Campgrounds – Red Lodge, Montana

Rock Creek runs through Red Lodge, MT and the Beartooth Highway (US 212) follows the creek as it heads toward the switchbacks that climb steeply to the Beartooth Pass. Rock Creek is popular with campers who enjoy the area’s many recreation opportunities and also by travelers on the Beartooth Highway.

Beartooth Lake

Beartooth Lake is a spectacular high-mountain lake located along the famous Beartooth Highway (U.S. Hwy 212).  The lake is a popular destination that offers fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and backpacking in a pristine alpine setting. Beartooth Lake is immediately adjacent to Hwy 212 which is both good and bad because it makes access very easy but it also promotes heavy use.

Cascade Campground on West Fork Rock Creek

Cascade Creek Campground is located on the West Fork Rock Creek about 11 miles west of Red Lodge, MT. Nestled in the Beartooth Mountains at 7,600 ft, Cascade Creek Campground features great hiking, fishing, and mountain biking opportunities.

Basin Campground Red Lodge, MT

The Basin Campground is on the West Fork Rock Creek at 6,800 ft elevation. The 30 campsites are enjoyed by hikers, anglers, and mountain bikers. The campground is in the Custer Gallatin National Forest and is close to the Beartooth Highway and Red Lodge, MT making it a popular destination.

Palisades Campground near Red Lodge, MT

The Palisades Campground is located 1.5 miles from the West Fork Road (West Fork Rock Creek) and just 3.5 miles from Red Lodge, MT. It’s a rather primitive campground with few amenities but there is no camping fee.

Rattin Campground on Rock Creek Red Lodge, MT

Rattin Campground is on Rock Creek just off US 212, the Beartooth Highway, 8 miles from downtown Red Lodge, MT. Rattin Campground is one of two campgrounds on the east side of Rock Creek. It’s small and generally quiet even though it’s close to the highway.

M-K Campground on Rock Creek near Red Lodge, MT

M-K Campground is located alongside Rock Creek about 15 miles from Red Lodge, MT. It’s on the Rock Creek Road about 3 miles from the Beartooth Highway. Sitting at an elevation of 7,500 ft, M-K is remote, quiet, and scenic making it a place to vacation or spend the night.

Limber Pine Campground on Rock Creek

Limber Pine campground sits beside Rock Creek less than a mile from the Beartooth Scenic Highway. It’s right next to the Greenough Lake Campground and the two share a camp host. Limber Pine is a destination in itself but it’s also a great place to spend a night when traveling the Beartooth Scenic Byway.
