Sheridan Campground near Red Lodge, MT

Sheridan Campground is on the east side of Rock Creek along US 212 (the Beartooth Highway) about 8 miles from Red Lodge, MT. The 9 campsites sit at 6,300 ft elevation and provide convenient camping for hikers, anglers, and those driving the scenic highway.

The Sheridan Campground is 1.8 miles from US 212 (the Beartooth Highway) on the East Side Road which intersects the highway 8 miles from downtown Red Lodge, MT. The campground is on the same road as the Rattin Campground which is about 1.5 mile closer to the highway. The two campgrounds are similar and they share a camp host who is located in the Rattin Campground.

This map shows the campsites and facilities at Sheridan Campground. Note that the turn-around at the end of the road is tight. The Forest Service recommends you avoid this if you are over 30ft.

The East Side Road is well signed where it leaves the highway. Just stay on the road, travel past the Rattin Campground and you will easily find the Sheridan campground. It’s rather small with 9 campsites that each have a table, a fire ring and steel bear-proof food storage cabinets. There are vault toilets and a water pump that are shared by all campers.

Campsites can be reserved online in advance. Typically 1 or 2 sites cannot be reserved so it might be possible to secure a site without a reservation. Here is the information about Sheridan Campground Reservations.

This is a typical campsite at Sheridan Campground. All sites have tables and fire rings. Most have food storage cabinets. There is one site that is accessible.

There is a nightly camping fee at the Sheridan Campground. If you reserve a site you will pay in advance online. However, if you are paying onsite be sure to have cash or a personal check. Firewood is available for sale from the camp host in the Rattin Campground.

The Sheridan Campground is administered by the Beartooth Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest and offers quiet camping close to the scenic Beartooth Highway. It’s right by Rock Creek which offers great fly fishing and is close to many fine hiking trails. It’s only ten minutes from the shops and restaurants in Red Lodge.
